Cape Town certainly comes alive during summer: thousands of international visitors flock to our shores, and even the locals feed off the energy of the general hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Of course, who wouldn’t want to take advantage of one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world? You can pretty much plan a full day ( and we are talking day-to-night full) of exciting things to do, places to see and food to sample.  And in between all of that is a little bit of magic: we’re talking about the sun dipping below the horizon and painting the sky with vibrant and breath-taking colours. So let’s take a look at some of the best spots to view the sunset in and around Cape Town.

There is a reason why this is an iconic Cape Town spot: it’s a popular hiking trail, sundowners place and , yes, sunset-viewing perch in the Mother City.  Not to mention, if you are loved up, then this can be a very romantic thing to do; and if you have a family, this is a great idea to spend some time together outdoors.

2. Clifton First Beach

You can pretty much pick any of Clifton’s stunning four beaches to view the sunset, but Clifton First is a little smaller and quieter than the rest.  You can pack a picnic for the beach and serenely watch the sun getting lower and lower, leaving swathes of stunning colours across the sky. To say it is a breath-taking experience is a bit of an understatement. Plus- think of the Instagram content!

3. Long Beach in Noordhoek

This stunning stretch of beach (it’s roughly 8kms long) is picture perfect. And add a setting sun, and you have one of the most beautiful coastal experiences. And if you really want to up the excitement factor, look into going on a horse ride along the beach.
